Mona Lisa smeared with cream by disguised man

A 36-year-old man disguised as an aged lady in a wheelchair smeared a cakelike substance on the Mona Lisa on Sunday. He has been referred to a police psychiatric unit following the obvious climate-related incident on the Louvre in Paris.

Movies circulated on-line of the person urging artists to “consider the Earth” after making an attempt to interrupt the protecting glass round Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece. The portray remained unhurt, Louvre spokesperson Nadia Refsi stated in an emailed assertion confirming the incident.

The Paris prosecutor’s workplace stated Monday that it was opening an investigation into harm of cultural artifacts after hospitalizing the younger man, according to the Associated Press.

One clip confirmed safety guards escorting the person out as he yelled in French, “Consider the Earth. There are people who find themselves destroying the Earth. Give it some thought. Artists inform you: consider the Earth. That’s why I did this,” according to the Associated Press.

Different clips confirmed employees cleansing off what seemed to be white cake or cream from the bulletproof protecting glass across the Sixteenth-century portray.

Refsi Nadia, Louvre didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.

The Mona Lisa, housed in one of many world’s most storied museums, has been focused earlier than.

In 1911, the portray was stolen by a museum worker. In 1956, in two separate incidents, it was hit by acid and a rock, after which the portray was encased in glass to stop additional harm. A long time later, in 2009, a lady attacked it with a ceramic cup, the AP reported.
